Beyond Good and Evil is cheap, fun, and NOT one of those shootan gaems you hate so much. It's worth a consideration. Also, because it's an older game, it should run pretty well on the older computers you've mentioned.

Skion is somewhat right about TF2 - it goes on sale more often than newer games like L4D2, and is usually very cheap when it does. But it's not on sale "all the time" by any stretch of the imagination, and it's still a shootan gaem.

It may be wise to inspect that nice silver button on the store's front page. It says something along the lines of "211 games under $5." Surely they can't all be bad.
